The 60's/Off The Beaten Track

I’ve been surfing for more than half a century now and there is probably not a surf spot on the eastern Australian coastline that I have not surfed at some time in my life. How well I remember the anticipation and exhilaration of surfing new horizons off the beaten track.
This scene features a late 1940s split window VW Kombi and the first ever Holden car made in Australia in 1948.

In his paintings Garry recalls the surf craft, clothing, cars and icons of that era in minute accurate detail. He creates original paintings from his memory of personal experiences. Each scene is more than a painting, it also tells a story of that era.
Working mostly in gouache, Garry's vibrant style reflects the magic of the ocean and his love of riding the waves.
