The 60's/Ground Swell

A storm out to sea can send in the most amazing ground swells drawing surfers to the coast. Four, five and six of us jammed into all kinds of vehicles with our boards lashed on everyway possible -on roofs, or sticking out boots and windows - we just couldn’t get there fast enough.
In this painting we piled into a 1953 FJ Holden, an early ‘50s Ford Single Spinner and the ever popular VW Beetle.

In his paintings Garry recalls the surf craft, clothing, cars and icons of that era in minute accurate detail. He creates original paintings from his memory of personal experiences. Each scene is more than a painting, it also tells a story of that era.
Working mostly in gouache, Garry's vibrant style reflects the magic of the ocean and his love of riding the waves.
