The 60's/Urban Surf

Urban surfing is an integral part of our surfing past. I was born in Sydeny where surfing is a national pastime. I spent all of my leisure time as a youth on the beaches of Sydney. Most of us grew up in towns and cities and every chance we got we made our way to the nearest beach, on foot, on bikes or in busses.
Parked here is a 1950s Morris Minor, a 1960s Ford Falcon and the very popular split window Kombi with its unique refrigerator doors was a weekend home to many a surfer during the ‘60s.

In his paintings Garry recalls the surf craft, clothing, cars and icons of that era in minute accurate detail. He creates original paintings from his memory of personal experiences. Each scene is more than a painting, it also tells a story of that era.
Working mostly in gouache, Garry's vibrant style reflects the magic of the ocean and his love of riding the waves.
