The 60's/Rock Break

Norfolk pines were originally planted along the Australian coastline around the turn of the century. This rugged variety of pine tree adapted perfectly to our dry, sandy soil conditions and formed a majestic backdrop for Aussie surfers. Rock Break features the Norfolk pines as they were in the ‘60s before progress intervened and buildings, car parks, proms, fences and signage sprouted up along much of the eastern seaboard.
The vehicles parked on the headland are the Vanguard Panel Van (I owned one back then), a '50s Ford V8 Twin Spinner and a Morris Minor.

In his paintings Garry recalls the surf craft, clothing, cars and icons of that era in minute accurate detail. He creates original paintings from his memory of personal experiences. Each scene is more than a painting, it also tells a story of that era.
Working mostly in gouache, Garry's vibrant style reflects the magic of the ocean and his love of riding the waves.

The original painting of "Rock Break", is available. Please see the Original Paintings page for full details.
