| The 60's/First Surf of the Day Previous | Next (To return, press the close button[X]) Very often we’d organise a bunch of our surfing mates to get together at a surf spot somewhere along the coast for a weekend surf safari. After surfing our brains out all day long we’d then light up a big fire, cook a few snags, down a few beers and tell a few surfing lies. Featured in this painting is the first surf of the day (after the night before…) when two enthusiasts sneak out to make the best of the dawn waves. Parked here is the 1956 FE Holden station wagon, my dad’s 1937 Chevy and a 1954 Vauxhall Velox. In his paintings Garry recalls the surf craft, clothing, cars and icons
of that era in minute accurate detail. He creates original paintings from
his memory of personal experiences. Each scene is more than a painting,
it also tells a story of that era. |
